Our tour began with a stop at the western end of Gibraltar where there is a lighthouse and a good view of the "rock". It was quite cold and very windy especially on this point of land. You could also see across to North Africa from there.
Next we took a steep, narrow road to the upper rock area. This is where the famous apes are located. They are actually "Barbary Macaques" and quite used to people and vehicles. They are everywhere and jump on top of the small buses. We saw one jump up onto a guys back pack, open the zipper and steal a package of some kind of food and jump down and start eating it. It happened in a split second!
At the upper area of the rock we visited the "Great Siege Tunnels". It was quite a walk up a steep road and quite a few of the passengers on our bus did not make the climb. There were very good views and we could see over to the border crossing to Spain. The airport runway is in this area and the road to Spain crosses it so they have to close the road when a plane lands or takes off. The tunnels were carved into the rock to hide cannons that were used to defend the British colony of Gibraltar from the Spanish and French from 1779 to 1783.
Our last stop was a visit to the Gibraltar Museum.
